Shell's Sarnia Manufacturing Centre (SMC), also referred to as Shell's Corunna Refinery, is located about 10 kilometers south of Sarnia between the communities of Froomfield and Corunna. Built in 1952, the refinery became part of Shell Canada's operations in 1963 when Shell purchased Canadian Oil. Since then, there has been numerous expansions and upgrades, modernized equipment and new technology has been added to meet current product regulations and environmental legislation.

Emergency preparedness and response and safety are important parts of operations at each Shell facility. Our goal is no harm to people, to protect the environment and to prevent pollution. Shell supports the community in numerous ways and has been a proud member of local emergency response organizations including CVECO and CAER. We are proud of our environmental, safety and health records and we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of performance.  Shell is a leader in environmental management and in 2001 SMC's environmental management system (EMS) was certified in accordance with the ISO 14001 standard.

Employees: 290 full-time employees (number of contract workers varies according to the refinery's shutdown and construction schedules.

Production Capacity:  72,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
